Dynamic positioning: FMEA, trials, capability analysis and audits
A DP system is only as reliable as the last time somebody tested it properly. We write the FMEA, run the trials, analyse the capability and audit the operation, for owners, operators and charterers.
What we deliver
DP FMEA and proving trials
Failure modes and effects analysis for newbuilds, conversions and after major modification. Proving trials programmes written from the FMEA and witnessed on board.
Annual DP trials
Annual trials programmes and witnessing, with attention to the open items from previous years and to changes since the last FMEA revision.
Capability analysis
DP capability plots and footprint analysis for a given environment and failure case, for vessel selection, tender evaluation or operational planning.
DP audits and assessments
Audits of DP operations against IMO MSC.1/Circ.1580, IMCA guidance and class notation, including operator competence, documentation and the DP operations manual.
Battery and hybrid proving trials
Failure modes and proving trials for battery and hybrid power systems on DP vessels: for newbuilds at design freeze, and for retrofits before the vessel returns to service. Battery safety and gap assessments against class and IMCA guidance.
When to involve us
For newbuilds, at system design freeze so the FMEA can influence the design. For vessels in service, before charter, after modification or when the operator wants an independent view of a recurring problem.
Typical engagement: a fixed-scope FMEA or trials programme, or a retained arrangement for a fleet.
